Dinner Tables

Dining room tableThe table that sits in our home is one of my “treasures” when I think of our home and it’s furnishings.  It’s not an antique, it was bought just about six years ago brand new.  It’s not scuffed up too much and it normally has a tablecloth covering it.  The “treasure” part of it really is in my mind and heart I suppose.

For when I look at it, I can imagine my family sitting all around it.  I can recall laughter and jokes, jabs among siblings, youngsters not wanting to finish their food, and dessert being served.

My mother used to always say when asked what she wanted for Christmas or birthday or something of that sort, “just my family together.”  I’ve always enjoyed having my family together but as I age I realize my Mother was onto something.  The material gifts I used to long for and the latest gadget in my hand fall to the wayside in comparison to time.

Time with the individuals I call family. The ones that have picked up on my characteristics or look like me, the ones that fell in love and married my daughters, and especially the ones that have only known me a short while, my grandchildren.

BW family

The dinner table has leaves that we can add so we all fit around it.  Today the family met, just shy of two, so the leaves were not needed.  But as the grandchildren grow and we all come together all the leaves will need to be placed in the table. Quite possibly a card table set at the end someday. I look forward to those days and feel blessed to have all my children live nearby.

It is a good place to be.  Sitting at the table, making memories with those I love.  May they always come home to the dinner table.

Grace is a gift,

Julie
